This week, Simon and Martina reviewed the Monster MV from Big Bang. Although Infinite’s ‘The Chaser’ was at the top of eatyourkimchi’s kpop charts for most of the week, VIPs brought Monster to the top in one day!

The very much loved and known Canadian couple, Simon and Martina are back with another update for their KpopCharts. If you don’t know who Simon and Martina are *gasp* it’s OK, go check out their webiste here.
This week their playlist includes: Shinhwa – Venus; CNBlue – Hey You and BtoB – Insane.
There is a sudden issue that has arisen this week, as Simon and Martina seem to have been a bit more insensitive than usual and to the legendary group ‘Shinhwa’.
The couple seem to be getting a lot of stick with this new video (as shown by the likes and dislikes bar on the video) as they seem to have said that Shinhwa belongs back in the past and isn’t right for the trend of K-pop today. “Shinhwa – even though we immensely respect them for doing all that they did in the past – are more relevant back in the past, not so much right now.”
Simon went on to say that when Shinhwa’s song ‘Venus’ came out on their Kpop charts it only got 1600 votes compared to B1A4 and EXO who got around 9000-10,000 votes, and therefore younger people are not really digging the song.
In the reaction to the video, fans are not too happy with the comment that Simon has made about Shinhwa belonging in the past. One viewer commented that Simon seems to be saying that it does not feel right for mature people to listen to Kpop music. Many are finding the video highly insensitive to older groups in Kpop.
Simon and Martina fired back at one commentator admitting that they are insensitve but they are also entitled to their own opinions.
As an avid follower of Simon and Martina @eatyourkimchi, I believe that the two are rightly accepted in expressing their own opinions and it is quite funny when they make fun of videos, but I think they went a little too far this time. Saying anything that negative about a very popular or legendary group like Shinhwa is crossing over to dangerous lines and they know that.
